In 2025, I embarked on one of the most creative and fulfilling journeys of my life, I enrolled in the School of Jewellery in Ireland. What began as curiosity quickly transformed into a deep passion for craftsmanship, design, and the magic of turning raw materials into meaningful pieces of art.
Discovering the Art of Jewelry Making
Walking into the studio for the first time felt like stepping into a world where imagination and technique meet. The air carried the scent of metal and creativity, and every table held tools that had shaped countless pieces before mine. I knew instantly that I was in the right place.
Throughout the program, I learned how to make jewellery entirely from scratch starting with unshaped materials and bringing them to life with my own hands. It was challenging, hands-on, and incredibly rewarding.
Working with Stainless Steel
Stainless steel became one of my favorite media. It’s durable, modern, and surprisingly expressive once you understand how to manipulate it. I learned techniques like cutting, sanding, shaping, and polishing, transforming sheets of steel into sleek, minimal designs. Working with such a strong material taught me patience and precision.
Crafting with Sterling Silver
Sterling silver was where the romance of traditional jewelry making really shone through. I practiced soldering, texturing, stone setting, and finishing. There’s something beautiful about watching silver melt, flow, and reform into something entirely new. Every piece had its own personality, and through each project, I grew more confident in both technique and creativity.
Exploring Acrylic Jewelry
Acrylic opened up a world of color and playfulness. Unlike metals, acrylic is bold, lightweight, and full of possibilities. I enjoyed experimenting with patterns, shapes, and layering techniques to create modern, vibrant pieces. It was a refreshing contrast to the precision of metalworking a space where imagination could run wild.
A Transformational Experience
My time at the School of Jewellery wasn’t just about learning techniques it was about finding a new way to express myself. I discovered that jewelry isn’t just an accessory; it’s a story, a message, a small piece of the maker’s heart.
Leaving the school in 2025, I walked away not just with new skills, but with a passion I plan to carry throughout my life. Whether I’m crafting stainless steel bracelets, sterling silver rings, or bold acrylic earrings, each piece reminds me of where I started and how far I’ve come.
